Founded in 1979, Hearing Loss Association (HLAA) is
a national, non-profit, non-sectarian, educational organization
devoted to the welfare and interests of those who cannot
hear well and who are committed to participating in
the hearing world.
We are a volunteer organization of people who are hard
of hearing which has become an international organization
with over 270 chapters and groups throughout the United
States and members in many other English speaking countries.
We and our members are catalysts who make mainstream
society more accessible to people who are hard of hearing,
accomplishing this through education, advocacy, and
self help.
We believe that little progress can be made until those
who can hear well and those with a hearing loss can
better understand the nature, causes, complications,
and steps that can be taken to improve communication.
National membership brings:
- A bi-monthly journal, Hearing Loss, containing the
latest information on technology, legislation and
coping with hearing loss
- Access to the information and resource center
- Active advocacy and representation in Congress
- Annual conventions held in different locations,
reaching out to all
